Sony’s PlayStation 4 is fast approaching its sixth birthday, and this creates a problem. You see, game developers felt it suitable to release a game for almost every day the console is available, leaving you with over 1,500 titles to choose from. The enormous amount of games offered, coupled with the subjective nature of the medium, makes it impossible to definitively define the “best” and this is not what this list is about.
Instead, we met to imagine that someone had never got a PlayStation 4 controller before. Why; I do not know, maybe they went for an Xbox One and try to cover the exclusive games they have lost. Or they’ve been trapped in a well for five years and just came home to discover a FedEx box on November 15, 2013 at their doorstep. Or maybe just click on this article to go to the comments and tell us how terrific our views are. Either way, these are the ten games we would recommend to someone who wants to see what PlayStation 4 is.
Bloodborne was a winner of this generation – an exclusive reworking of the Dark Souls PS4. The FromSoftware developer has transformed the world of the Gothic fantasy soul game for a … that is still quite gothic but has introduced a curve of childhood difficulty and a faster combat system. You play as a hunter, moving slowly through a labyrinth city, conquering your weapon and upgrading your stats. If you have not played Bloodborne yet, some of the boss’s most memorable FromSoftware battles are never waiting for you.
God of War
Sony’s God of War series was inactive for half a decade when its latest incarnation hit the stores in early 2018 and for good reason. Stargame gameplay and annoying themes have made it unsuitable for the modern gaming landscape. Not anymore. The God of War of Studio SIE Santa Monica, manages to restart the series, while transforming the abstract weaknesses of previous races into his forces. Kratos is now a dad, the camera is now nearly stretched out on his shoulder and Sony has what is sure to be a new turn in her hands.
Horizon Zero Dawn
After years of spending the various Killzone titles, Games Guerrilla developers eventually cut off with a rich and fantastic new game at Horizon Zero Dawn. The game combines a beautiful post-revealing open world with battle, craftsmanship and a quiet but unforgettable story. Sure, it could not break new ground, but Horizon does everything so well that it does not matter. Also, two years after his release, he remains one of the most beautiful games of this generation.
Finally, you do not have to pick up the Spider-Man 2 on the GameCube to rebuild your web-slinging repair. For almost 15 years, this game has been preserved as the golden standard for a Spider-Man game, and I will leave you in a secret: It was not really that good. Marvel’s Spider-Man, on the other hand, is a tour de force. With the best representation of what’s like swinging in New York, Insomniac’s PS4 borrows desperately from the Batman: Arkham battle and throws a story that, although it takes a little time to go, ends up at a point that stumbles . I have to buy.
